NORCROSS -- The Marietta Patriots (8-13) overcame a 7-3 deficit with four runs in the ninth to win 9-7 over the Atlanta Crackers (9-11) Friday night at Norcross High School.
With the victory, the Patriots clinched the season series with Atlanta and moved within 1.5 games of fourth place.
Matthew Vaccaro led the Patriots at the plate with his second four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, and Livingston Morris went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the sixth, his team-leading fourth of the season.
Facing a 7-3 deficit in the eighth, Paul Grazzini started the rally with a two-out, RBI single into center field with runners on second and third to cut the deficit to 7-5. Then in the ninth with one out, Anthony Angelety walked and Khalil Wilson hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Angelety then scored on an RBI single by Nick Tiano before Collin Teegarden put the Pats in front with a single and subsequent error by the catcher that allowed Wilson and Tiano to score and put the Pats up 8-7. Teegarden then scored on Matthew Vaccaro's RBI single into center field to increase the lead to 9-7.
Alex Watkins (2-2) pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs on no hits with a walk and four strikeouts to earn his second win of the season.
Marietta jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-out double by Vaccaro with one on, followed by an RBI single from Walker Hennon that scored Vaccaro from second. The Crackers then cut the deficit to 2-1 on an RBI triple by Cole Phillips before taking a 4-2 lead with three runs in the fifth. Morris cut the deficit to 4-3 with his home run in the sixth, but the Crackers scored three more runs in the home half before Marietta began its comeback.
