BROOKHAVEN - The Marietta Patriots (4-7) broke a 1-1 deadlock with three runs in the eighth and held on to win 5-1 over the Brookhaven Bucks (4-4) Tuesday night at Oglethorpe University.

Collin Teegarden went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a walk to lead the Pats at the plate, while David Minton and Adam Alicea both came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with Minton adding an RBI in the ninth.

After Brookhaven took a 1-0 lead in the second, the Patriots responded with a run on a bases-loaded error in the third to tie the game 1-1. The score remained that way until the eighth when the Pats pulled away for good. Alicea led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a balk, advanced to third on a single from David Minton, and then scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Nick Tiano. Teegarden then scored Minton on an RBI single into right field, and Paul Grazzini scored Teegarden on a base-clearing double into right field to put the Pats up 4-1.

Brookhaven out-hit Marietta 9-8, but Ronny Piepmeier, Alex Watkins, Jared Staples, and Ryan Suppa combined to allow just one run and strand 12 baserunners for the Bucks, including eight that were in scoring position. Staples (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings to earn the win in his debut for Marietta.

The series concludes Wednesday night at Marietta High School. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
