Pats Fall in DH at Alpharetta

Alpharetta, Ga. - The Marietta Patriots dropped a doubleheader against the Alpharetta Aviators 1-0 and 7-0 at Legion Field.

With the losses, Marietta (7-6) fell to a tie for third with Atlanta in the Sun Belt Standings after the Crackers split their doubleheader against the Bucks in Norcross.

It was a rough night for the bats of the Pats as they managed no runs on just five hits in sixteen innings against the Aviator pitching staff .

Joe Stucky led the way at the plate for Marietta with two hits and a walk, and Alex Watkins was the highlight of the night for the Marietta pitching staff. Watkins appeared in both games and retired every batter he faced, allowing no runs on no hits with three strikeouts in a combined three innings of work.

GAME ONE: Alpharetta 1, Marietta 0

The Aviators scored their only run in the third inning on a two-out error by the first baseman with runners on first and second.

Sean Fitzpatrick (2-1) allowed the game's lone run and lone hit, but also walked five batters while striking out nine, taking the tough-luck loss after getting no run support from his offense.

The Patriots out-hit Alpharetta 3-1 in game one, but were still held scoreless by Aviator starter Luke Corbin (1-1) and Lucas Ellenburg, who pitched the final inning to earn his first save of the season.

GAME TWO: Alpharetta 7, Marietta 0

The Patriots managed just two hits in game two and were held scoreless again by the Alpharetta Aviators.

Alpharetta took a 3-0 lead on two hits and two errors in the second inning. The score remained that way until the eight as they added four more runs on three hits and another error to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Jack Knight (1-1) allowed no runs on two hits and two walks and striking out four in six innings for the Aviators, picking up his first win of the season.

Marietta is off from July 3-5 for the Sun Belt League All-Star Break before returning to action July 6th for a game against the Atlanta Crackers at Norcross High School. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
