GAINESVILLE- The Marietta Patriots (1-4) fell 4-0 to the Gwinnett Tides (3-1) Friday night at Gainesville High School.
Nick Loffredo went 2-for-3 to lead Marietta at the plate, but the Patriots offense struggled as five Tides pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed no runs on six hits and no walks. Zachary Burns (2-0) picked up his league-leading second victory in relief for Gwinnett.
Pats starter Nate Dupree (0-1) pitched four scoreless innings to start the game but was hit with the loss after allowing a go-ahead two-run home run by Tyler Skelton in the fifth. Dupree's final line saw him go five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
The Patriots return to action Saturday as they host the Norcross Astros at Marietta High School. First pitch is at noon.
