BROOKHAVEN -- The Marietta Patriots (9-17) fell 16-7 to the Brookhaven Bucks (14-8) Saturday afternoon at Oglethorpe University.
Both teams combined for 23 runs and 31 hits in a game that was originally scheduled to be played at Marietta High School before being moved to Oglethorpe due to rainy conditions.
Livingston Morris went 3-for-3 with a walk and one RBI to lead Marietta at the plate, and Paul Grazzini and MJ Sasapan each went 2-for-4 with Grazzini adding two RBI.
The Brookhaven Bucks took command of the game early with eight runs off of Pats starter Jacob Hester (0-1) in the first five innings, highlighted by three home runs, two by Kevin Kilpatrick and one by Andrew Jenkins, to take an 8-0 lead.
The Patriots fought back with three runs in the sixth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Livingston Morris put the Pats on the board with an RBI single into center field, and then Matthew Vaccaro cleared the bases with an RBI double to pull the Pats within 8-3.
The Bucks then scored three runs in the seventh, but the Pats countered with three more runs in the home half. With runners on second and third, Paul Grazzini tripled into right field and scored on David Minton's sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 11-6. But Brookhaven scored five more runs in the eighth, highlighted by Drew Compton's two-run homer, to put the game away for good.
Blake Metcalfe scored from third on an RBI double play groundout by Palmer Sapp in the home half to avoid the run-rule.
