Pats Dominate Bucks 8-1 in Marietta

Nate Stinson went 3-for-3 with one walk and scored three runs

Marietta, Ga. – The Marietta Patriots (11-14) used eight runs on nine hits to back a quality start from Harrison Osborn and pick up an 8-1 victory over the first-place Brookhaven Bucks (16-8) Friday night at Jackie Smallwood Field.

Nate Stinson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs to lead Marietta, while Brandon Grover had two hits and three RBI’s and Gabe Howell hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Matthew Vaccaro also drove in two runs and extended his current hitting streak to seven games with a single in the first inning.

Harrison Osborn (2-0) pitched six innings in his second start of the season for the Patriots. The right-handed sophomore from Point University allowed just one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts to pick up his second victory of the season.

After Trevor Austin walked and Nate Stinson singled to lead off the first inning, Brandon Grover gave Marietta the lead with a ground ball single through the right side that scored Austin. Matthew Vaccaro then added another single, this time through the left side that scored Stinson and put the Patriots up 2-0.

Marietta ran into some trouble in the fourth as Brookhaven used two singles and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with one out. But the Pats were able to limit the damage to one run on a hit-by-pitch as they escaped the inning with a 2-1 lead.

The score remained that way until the sixth inning, as Michael Payne came on to pitch for the Bucks and was promptly greeted with consecutive singles by Trevor Austin and Nate Stinson before Brandon Grover hit a two-run triple into the right field corner. Matthew Vaccaro then added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1 Pats.

The Patriots put the cherry on the top in the eighth as Gabe Howell blasted his three-run homer over the wall in right center field.

The Marietta Patriots continue their series against the Brookhaven Bucks at Oglethorpe University on Saturday, July 21st, at 5 p.m.
