Norcross, Ga. – Stephen Cullen and Livingston Morris homered, and Will Griffin (1-0) took a no-hitter into the seventh as the Marietta Patriots (8-6) earned a huge 7-3 victory over the Atlanta Crackers (7-7) Friday night at Norcross High School.

Griffin was nearly perfect through the first six innings. The right-hander from New Orleans allowed no hits and just one walk before Tanner Green broke up his no-hitter with a single to lead off the seventh inning. He finished the game allowing three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four in 6.2 innings.

Livingston Morris and Brandon Grover each had two hits to lead the Pats, with Morris driving in three runs and Grover driving in one.

Marietta took an early 1-0 on Stephen Cullen’s solo home run in the second inning. The Pats then added to their lead again in the third as Brandon Grover capitalized on a dropped foul ball with two outs, hitting a single up the middle to score Trey Vanderpool from second, making it 2-0 Patriots. Livingston Morris then blasted a 0-1 pitch from Cracker starter Joshua Farmer (0-1) over the left field wall, giving Marietta a 3-0 lead in the fourth.

Morris added to the Pats lead again in the sixth, driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single while advancing to second on a throw. He then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring on a wild pitch, making it 6-0 Patriots.

Marietta capitalized on a hit-by-pitch and a walk to lead off the seventh, followed by a pass ball and a wild pitch to make it 7-0 in their favor.

Roury Glanton hit a three-run homer in the seventh to break up the shutout, cutting the deficit to 7-3. That was all Atlanta could manage, however, as Jacob Hester came on to pitch and shut them down the rest of the game, allowing no hits and just one walk while striking out four in the final 2-1/3 innings.

The Marietta Patriots return to Jackie Smallwood Field on Saturday, July 7th, for a doubleheader against the Atlanta Crackers starting at 12 p.m.
