SUWANNEE - Walker Hennon hit a solo home run in the fifth, but the Marietta Patriots (0-2) fell to the Norcross Astros 16-1 in seven innings Monday night at Peachtree Ridge High School.
Hennon's homer was the lone highlight for the Pats offense which was limited to just three hits and two walks by the Astros pitching staff. Starter Jack Rasmussen (1-0) allowed no hits in three innings with one walk and a strikeout to earn the victory for Norcross (2-0).
The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI triple by Alex Rosen and a groundout that brought him home. The lead increased to 4-0 in the third on an RBI single by Justin Russell and a sacrifice fly by Ali LaPread. Russell had two hits with four RBI on the evening, while Ethan Underwood went 3-of-4 at the plate and also drove in four runs.
Pats starter Harrison Osborn (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in three innings. The Pats pitching staff allowed a season-high 14 hits with eight walks.
Marietta begins a two game home stand Tuesday night at Marietta High School against the Gwinnett Tides. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
